Who is Shadd?
Great question. Shadd Sutton is an accomplished Casting Director with 19 years of experience at Beth Melsky Casting. He has cast for hundreds of commercials working with Directors and Advertising Agencies to ensure that their vision is taken from the page to the (in-home flat) screen. Let’s be honest, mostly your phone. These acting classes will give you a behind the curtain look at what the casting process is like and how to audition so that you can set yourself up for success.

3 Week In Person Beginner Class

This class is open to anyone 18 and over. Never acted before but always want to? This class is for you. Are you an experienced actor who misses being “in the room” with other humans? This is the class for you? Haven’t acted since high school theater? This class is for you. Starting out in the industry and want to get a sense of if this is something you want to pursue? This class is for you. In this class you will get the basics of how the commercial casting process works from an experienced casting director. You’ll get to work on your craft performing commercial copy by yourself and working off other actors. We will work to help you be confidently prepared for any and all auditions that you can immediately apply to your future work. Whether it’s auditioning alone or in groups, we’ll collaborate to get you on top of your game. At the end of the class you will perform in front of guest industry professionals. These classes will be held IN PERSON at Beth Melsky Casting.

This class is open to anyone 18 and over. Have you been sitting in the front of a blue background in your kitchen and suddenly in the middle of your audition all you can think is “can they see my countertop”? If so, this class is for you. This class is designed to cover the basics of auditioning and give you personalized coaching along the way so that you can confidently continue to work without being distracted by the thoughts of closet clutter behind you. We will cover different setups for different shots and framing so that you can focus on your craft and not your ring light. Together we will work on how you play off another actor “not in the room” by using real commercial copy as a template to hone your skills. More often than not I hear about how frustrated actors are working in a silo without any feedback in this “new world” we’ve found ourselves in. Let me help you.
